Late 18th Century Welsh 'Comb-Back' Stick Back Chair
This is one for the purest of true folk-art furniture, In the form of a late 18th Century Welsh 'comb-back' stick back chair. With character and charm this example shows aged repairs and a lovely deep natural colour and patination across the mixed wood material, An object of artistic merit in our humble opinion.
The wood-working tradition was well established in Wales and included makers of boats, carts, wheelwrights, spinning wheels and, housebuilders – all craftsmen who worked in wood. All of them would have had the necessary knowledge and skill to make a stick chair with every community served by a blacksmith, carpenter, and various other craftsmen.
